Emergency Response Centers for a Nuclear Emergency

Firefighters completed hands-on training in Konz, Germany preparing for operations involving radioactive hazards.

On September 22 and 23, 18 members of the fire departments and THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief) took part in specialized training for deployment at emergency centers in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The course was designed for personnel at all levels of experience, from new responders to unit commanders, with a focus on radiological emergency response.

A key element of the training was the contamination monitor CoMo-170, part of the ECMo system – a modular contamination monitoring system designed for civil protection and disaster response. In the event of a radiological or nuclear incident, emergency centers provide the public with information and support while enabling rapid screening for potential radioactive contamination.

The training combined theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises. Using CoMo-SIM and NuPROBE-SIM simulation systems from NUVIATech Instruments, participants were able to safely practice realistic operational scenarios.

The combination of theory, practical training and knowledge sharing strengthened the responders’ confidence and readiness to manage potential radiological incidents.
