Many facilities processing metal scrap may sooner or later encounter the risk of unintentional occurrence of radioactive material in the incoming load. Such a situation represents a potential hazard to employees, a burden on the environment, and at the same time a significant financial impact associated with operational downtime, decontamination costs, or administrative penalties. The most effective way to prevent these incidents is the timely inspection of all vehicles before they enter the site.

For this reason, NuviaTech Instruments has developed a cost optimized solution designed specifically for scrap yards and smaller processing facilities – NuCLEARANCE Lite. It is a fully automatic portal system equipped with two highly sensitive 5 liter plastic scintillation detectors that ensure reliable detection of ionizing radiation sources located in the cargo area of passing vehicles. Thanks to its simple installation, robust construction, and minimal operational requirements, NuCLEARANCE Lite is an ideal solution for facilities that need dependable monitoring without high investment costs.

The system continuously monitors radiation levels in the passage zone and automatically activates a visual and acoustic alarm if the preset threshold is exceeded. System parameters can be configured directly on the portal using a notebook connected via the RS485 interface; for remote management, the optional NuSOFT PortIS LITE software is available, enabling traffic control, display of measured values, and maintenance of a passage database. With an operating temperature range from –30 °C to +55 °C and IP65 protection, the system is also suitable for the demanding conditions commonly found in scrap yards.
